Summer: the Heat & Heart of Emotion

Walt Whitman said, "Write in the gush, the throb, the flood of the moment ... By writing at the instant, the very heartbeat of life is caught." Which is what we'll be teaching you to optimise this summer!

About the event

The art of capturing the raw heat of emotion can be a tricky thing to master - especially as, if you over-think or over-work it, that's when you've lost it! But a story without emotion, a story that doesn't make us FEEL - love, fear, desire, empathy... whatever it is you want your readers to feel - is a story that doesn't work. No matter how beautifully crafted and brilliantly plotted, if we don't feel anything then we simply won't care. And if we don't care, then we won't keep reading. In today's workshop we'll use exercises and teach techniques that will enable you to write in "the gush" and capture the "heartbeat of life" while also delicately polishing those words so that they shine into equisite expression without losing any of the raw heat of emotion!
